I’ve never felt more like I had stepped into a time portal than earlier this month when I went back to the office for the first time since March 2020. Despite the ravaging passage of time, and having had almost two full trips around the sun since I last walked the carpeted hallways, when I crossed the threshold on this fateful day, it was like no time had passed at all. Eerily so, if I’m honest.
Everything was just how I had remembered it, save the addition of sanitiser at every entry and exit point. The office had pretty much been frozen in time.
In all honestly, it was nice to have the experience of going back in as it 100% confirmed that it wasn’t an event I wanted to repeat. I’m not saying you’ll never catch me in an office ever again, but at least not for the foreseeable future.
Engaging with workmates IRL in a little watercooler chat as that infamous Dettol advert suggested last year was pleasantly refreshing. However, the best part of the day of course as always was ‘lunch’, followed swiftly by ‘the end’. Shutting down the PC and heading to the wine bar around the corner that has recently become my second home – Vagabond.
Here’s my day in pictures:
