I planned for 2019 to be the year of me getting ‘out there’. So for my first event of the year, I went to Travel Eat Slay‘s first ‘Sip & Paint’ evening. So many firsts!
The event was hosted in the Good Hotel at Royal Victoria Dockside. Firstly getting these was an experience on the DLR, as I’ve never been to that area of London before. It’s kind of shocking just how much of London I don’t know.

I was attending alone, as none of my friends were either available, or had the desire to go. So on approaching the hotel I was suitably anxious. Fortunately on check in, I met a wonderful girl who became my buddy for the evening. We shared stories of our travels until it was time to get painting!
The room set up was super chic and professional. With the cutest easels and art supplies waiting for us at each place setting. On arrival, we picked from our choice of delicious tropical drinks, fruit punch, ginger beer and sorrel supplied by CND drinks.

The event was lead by artist Oriana Jemide, and our task for the evening, was to paint self-portraits. A classic arty task that I was excited about. As such, we had to take selfies. Here’s was my reference selfie. And below you’ll see the work in progress on the way to semi-completion. I ran out of time; forever slow.

I really enjoyed the event, the music and vibe in the room, was so supportive and chilled. Throughout painting I was very humbled/embarrassed by kind words from the room about my work; more on that later. Would love to go to event like this again. Or rather, stage my own in my room. First, back to CASS Arts to get some supplies!
